Extreme Ironing
Leicester England is not only the birthplace of Walkie Talkies, dimpled golf balls and modern English, but also claims fame to inventing the sport known as Extreme Ironing.
Est. 1997
After returning home from a long day working in the knitwear factory, Phil Shaw looked at his pile of clothes waiting to be ironed and was inspired to combine the mundane chore with his (somewhat unsuccessful) rock climbing hobby. In 1999 Phil Shaw, now known as Steam, embarked on an international tour to promote his new found sport.
Extreme Ironing World Championship
The first Extreme Ironing Championship was hosed in September 2002 in Bavaria Germany. 12 teams competed for glory, hailing from 10 nations throughout Austria, Australia, Chile, Croatia, Great Britain and Germany.
Extreme Ironing: Pressing for Victory
